Role of a Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
Recently, I was asked an interesting question, “What is the role of a CTO?”
Took me a short while and my business education (MBA) comes to craft my answer.
My answer is, I see Technology as an enablement tool. It enables the following:
1) Ease & Proper execution of the business strategy set up by C-Level Execs
2) Set up, where possible, the monitoring of business tactics, to determine their efficacy
3) Gathering of information on the ground, the market the business operates in, whether business operations are in order, etc.
And the areas that CTO have to look at are:
I) Hardware
II) Software
III) Human Resource (Skills & Competencies)
And determine how these three areas can come together to enable the above points.
